Dear Parents, Guardians, and Pupils,
A warm welcome to Tattingstone Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.
We hope that our website will give you an idea of what makes Tattingstone School the special, spiritual and enriching environment of which we are all proud to be part.
As a community of faith and learning, we see Christ at the centre of the day-to-day life of the school and this is expressed through the concern and respect we have for the efforts and achievements of everyone. Our aim as a Christian community is to develop our pupils’ knowledge and understanding of our faith, while promoting Christian values in all aspects of daily life. We have identified six core values: courage, trust, forgiveness, respect, perseverance and responsibility that stem from our Vision. Our vision, ‘We can do all things through Him who strengthens us,’ adapted from Philippians 4:13 is at the heart of our Christian ethos, which permeates all areas of school life.
Whilst predominantly white British, our school community consists of children from different cultures and faiths. Our school provides our children with a broad and balanced curriculum including Religious Education which puts Christ at the centre of school life. The children attending our school reflect our school values. We are very proud of our children; they enjoy learning, they are supportive of each other and the school environment, they are polite, respectful, and try to be the best they can be.
A feature of which we are extremely proud is our strong partnership between parents, staff, governors and the children themselves. We welcome parental involvement in all aspects of academic learning and wider school activities.
If you have any questions or would like to visit us and meet members of our school community, please contact the school office.
Mrs Beverley Derrett
Headteacher
Tattingstone is a small village of about five hundred people, situated to the south of Ipswich.
Children come to the school from both Tattingstone and Wherstead villages, and from outside our catchment area, from the neighbouring town of Ipswich or surrounding areas.
The school has the capacity to have 98 children on roll and is housed in a delightful Victorian building of flint and soft red brick dating back from 1841. This, together with the adjacent school house, 'Cabin' and Portacabin offers a wide range of accommodation, including a technology out-building, Early Years unit, music and library areas.
The school has both hard and astroturf play areas, kitchen garden and Forest School area on site which retain the features of a friendly family garden.
In addition to our own facilities, we have use of the village playing field close by and the village hall for P.E., Dance and Drama.
The school has a very active 'Friends of Tattingstone' group and Governing Body. Both support the school in specific roles with the FoTS organising both social and fundraising activities, which are well supported by families and staff. The Governors meet regularly to discuss strategic issues about the safe and effective leadership of the school and are actively involved in school life and in monitoring and supporting our teaching.
The church and school work closely together, focusing on the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all members of the school community. Daily acts of Collective Worship and family assemblies are important for sustaining and developing the ethos of the school.
Our School Council discusses on a regular basis , the issues that are important to the various classes and try to act upon children's suggestions whenever possible. The Schools Sports Committee, Eco-Council and Online Ambassadors are also very proactive. We consider it important to work closely with all members of the community - children, parents, staff, governors, the church and friends of the school.
