What is our Vision?

Mission statement

Turning small wonders into shining lights

Our Vision

At Tattingstone (VC) Primary School, our vision is rooted in the Christian belief expressed in Philippians 4:13:

“We can do all things through Him who strengthens us.”

We chose this vision because it speaks directly to the needs, strengths and context of our school community. As a small village school, Tattingstone provides a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is known, valued and supported. Our vision affirms that all pupils, regardless of background, ability or starting point, can grow, persevere and succeed when they are encouraged, believed in and strengthened by supportive relationships, strong values and faith.

Philippians 4:13 reminds us that strength is not measured solely by academic success or natural ability. Instead, it encourages resilience and courage, helping pupils understand that mistakes are part of learning and that challenges can be faced with confidence. This message is particularly important in a small school setting, where pupils are supported to take risks, develop independence and grow in self-belief as they move from small wonders to shining lights.

Our Christian vision shapes the way we live and learn together. It underpins our six school values — perseverance, courage, respect, responsibility, trust and forgiveness - which guide behaviour, relationships and decision-making across the school. Through these values, pupils learn how to treat others with dignity, take responsibility for their actions, build trusting relationships and show forgiveness and compassion when things go wrong.

Our Aims

Our vision is lived out through the following aims:

  •  To uphold our Christian vision, enabling every pupil to flourish as a unique individual and grow in confidence, character and faith.
    • To be a welcoming, family-focused school where relationships are rooted in trust, respect and forgiveness, and where all are valued and cared for.
    • To provide a high-quality, creative and engaging curriculum that inspires curiosity, encourages courage in learning and supports pupils to achieve their full potential, turning small wonders into shining lights.
    • To develop the whole child within a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment, promoting responsibility, independence and perseverance, so that pupils become confident, active and lifelong learners.
    • To equip pupils with strong values, high aspirations and a sense of responsibility for themselves and others, enabling them to face an ever-changing world with resilience, hope and compassion.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Guided by our Christian vision, we recognise the unique worth and potential of every individual and are fully committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. Pupils, staff and governors receive regular training on the Equality Act and strive to live out its principles as part of our shared values.

We celebrate diversity in all its forms and value the richness it brings to our school community. Pupils are encouraged to understand and celebrate their own identities, including neurodiversity, and to develop respect and empathy for others through discussion, collaboration and a representative curriculum.

When making decisions or reviewing policies, we carefully consider their impact on all members of our community, including protected characteristics, to ensure fairness, dignity and equality of opportunity for all.
