What is a Church School?

A Church school is a school rooted in a Christian vision, shaped by the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. It seeks to nurture the whole child — academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually — so that every individual is encouraged to recognise their worth, develop resilience and grow in confidence. In a Church school, Christian values guide relationships, learning and decision-making, helping pupils to flourish as individuals and members of the wider community.

At Tattingstone Primary, our vision is inspired by Philippians 4:13:
“We can do all things through Him who strengthens us.”
This verse underpins our belief that every child has the potential to grow and succeed, supported by faith, encouragement and a strong sense of identity. Pupils are empowered to persevere when learning feels challenging, to show courage when trying something new, and to understand that strength comes not only from personal effort but from faith, support and community.

As a Church school, Tattingstone Primary promotes Christian values through the experiences we offer to all our pupils. We are a fully inclusive school and warmly welcome children and families of the Christian faith, other faiths or no religious faith at all. Our Christian foundation provides a framework for living with respect, responsibility, trust and forgiveness, enabling pupils to build positive relationships and develop a strong moral compass.

We are inspired by the example of Jesus to live lives of compassion, service and wisdom, encouraging pupils to care for others, take responsibility for their actions and treat everyone with dignity. Within this nurturing environment, children are supported to grow from small wonders to shining lights, developing confidence, resilience and a readiness for their next stage of learning.

Ofsted recently found that:
“Pupils reflect a culture of learning, caring and achieving together. Many pupils enjoy an ever-increasing range of opportunities to ‘flourish as an individual’. The intent of ‘turning small wonders into shining lights’ remains strong. This enables all pupils to build important knowledge and skills over time, in preparation for the next stage of their learning.” (February 2025)

Guided by our shared Christian vision and values, we aim to ensure that all voices in our school family are heard and valued. We are committed to providing learning that challenges and excites pupils, encourages perseverance and courage, and enables every child to achieve their full potential.
