Our Competition Intent
At Tattingstone CEVC Primary School, we believe that competition provides valuable opportunities for every child to discover their strengths, develop confidence and character, and experience the excitement of working towards a shared goal.
Rooted in our Christian vision, “We can do all things through Him who strengthens us” (Philippians 4:13), and our mission, “Turning small wonders into shining lights”, we aim to provide inclusive, positive and purposeful competitive experiences that enable all pupils to flourish.
We want pupils to develop the courage to try, the perseverance to improve, the responsibility to contribute, the respect to treat others fairly, the trust to work as a team and the ability to forgive themselves and others when things do not go to plan.
We offer opportunities for pupils to participate in intra-school and inter-school competitions, festivals and sporting events, alongside experiences that celebrate personal progress, teamwork and enjoyment. We recognise that pupils have different interests, abilities, confidence levels and aspirations; therefore, we seek to provide appropriate pathways into competition so that every child has the opportunity to participate, contribute and experience success.
Through listening to pupil voice and responding to individual needs, we aim to remove barriers to participation and ensure that competition promotes belonging through shared experiences, positive relationships and mutual encouragement, rather than being reserved for the most confident or accomplished performers.
We teach pupils to celebrate success with humility, respond to disappointment positively, learn from mistakes and recognise the achievements of others. Winning is celebrated, but so too are effort, improvement, sportsmanship, courage and perseverance.
Ultimately, our intention is for every pupil to develop a positive relationship with physical activity, recognise their potential and leave primary school with happy sporting memories, greater confidence and a willingness to remain active throughout their lives.
